Doyin Odebowale, a former aide and close associate of the late Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, has shed light on the rift between the former governor and his successor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa. Odebowale criticized Akeredolu, describing him as indecisive in handling a matter involving himself and his wife. He also accused Akeredolu of mismanaging his health.

Odebowale resigned from his position as the Senior Special Assistant on Special Duties and Strategies, just 24 hours after Aiyedatiwa was sworn in as the substantive governor of the state. In a viral video, Odebowale revealed that the relationship between Akeredolu and Aiyedatiwa was initially harmonious but later soured.

According to Odebowale, the discord stemmed from the discovery that a female aide in the cabinet was sharing confidential information about Akeredolu’s health with Aiyedatiwa, who was then the deputy governor. He alleged that the woman had aspirations to become the deputy governor if Aiyedatiwa succeeded Akeredolu after his death.

The former aide did not mention the woman’s name but claimed that she had been in close contact with Aiyedatiwa, even while pretending to be loyal to Akeredolu. Odebowale suggested that this led to mistrust between Akeredolu and Aiyedatiwa. He also accused Akeredolu’s wife, Betty, of contributing to his health challenges, alleging that she was preoccupied with personal conflicts instead of attending to her husband’s well-being.

Odebowale criticized Akeredolu for not taking decisive action and allowing his health to deteriorate. He accused some members of the cabinet of exploiting the situation for personal gain, alleging that they were initially unknown in political circles until they were nominated by Akeredolu’s family.

The former aide challenged one of the commissioners, Rasaq Obe, to disclose how he secured his position in the government, implying that Obe had paid for his appointment. Odebowale promised to reveal more details after Akeredolu’s burial.
