The Canadian government has reintroduced two immigration programmes, inviting caregivers to apply for relocation to Canada from January 1, 2024. These programmes, which will run as five-year pilots, offer qualified caregivers and their families the opportunity to become permanent residents in Canada.

The Home Child Care Provider Pilot and the Home Support Worker Pilot aim to attract experienced caregivers to Canada. Notably, the eligibility criteria have been updated, reducing the required work experience from 24 months to 12 months for caregivers.

Under these pilots, caregivers who have been offered employment in Canada or possess caregiving experience in the country can apply for permanent residency. The application process varies based on the applicant’s circumstances and the amount of qualifying work experience they have.

Applicants are advised to submit their applications to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), providing evidence of their relevant experience, especially if they have previously applied under the “Gaining Experience” category.
