Amidst the ongoing political turbulence in Rivers State, President Bola Tinubu convened a crucial meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. The gathering saw the Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, in attendance alongside former Governor Sir Peter Odili, and other influential stakeholders from the state. Notably, the meeting follows the recent clash between Governor Fubara and his predecessor, the Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike.

The undisclosed agenda of this closed-door session sparks curiosity, especially against the backdrop of the dramatic defection of 27 out of 32 State House of Assembly members, aligning themselves with the APC. This mass exodus, predominantly consisting of FCT Minister loyalists, heightened tensions and triggered speculation regarding the motives behind the political realignment.

The Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima, and the Rivers State deputy governor were also present, underscoring the significance of the discussions. The meeting gains additional weight considering the alleged draft of an Abuja court order supporting the G-27 faction in the State House of Assembly and signaling the commencement of impeachment proceedings against Governor Fubara.

In a recent development, the G27 faction, led by Mr. Martins Amaewhule, engaged in a public dispute with the PDP and the Rivers State government regarding the vacant seats in the House. Amaewhule argued that their defection to the APC was constitutional, citing the turmoil within the PDP in the state. Dismissing the opposing 4-member faction led by Edison Ehie, Amaewhule emphasized that without the constitutionally required quorum of 11 members, their actions amounted to nothing more than a “family meeting.”
