A wave of protesters descended upon the National Assembly premises in Abuja on Wednesday, echoing their outrage over the military drone strike that claimed the lives of numerous innocent citizens in Tudun Biri village on Sunday.

For over two hours, the impassioned demonstrators gathered at the National Assembly entrance gate, demanding justice for the victims and calling upon Minister of Defence, Abubakar Badaru, to either fulfil his responsibilities or step down.

The tragic incident, reported by Daily Trust, unfolded in Tudun Biri, Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State, where over 90 villagers lost their lives during a drone strike by the Nigerian Army.

The residents, celebrating Maulud on Sunday night, were targeted in the attack that also left more than 60 people injured.

While the military has taken responsibility for the bombing, details remain sparse.

Speaking on behalf of the protesters, Nasir Ishaku, leader of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) North West Zone and Arewa Youth Movement, demanded justice for the victims.

Ishaku expressed deep concern over the ongoing loss of innocent lives in the Northern part of the country and declared it intolerable.

He urged the National Assembly to launch a thorough investigation into the Kaduna incident and take decisive action to address the security crisis in the nation.

Ishaku emphasised the deteriorating security situation, particularly in Northern Nigeria, and called for accountability from the Minister of Defence.

In a bold statement, Ishaku asserted, “Nigeria keeps losing members of the armed forces, including the army, the air force, the navy, and members of the Nigeria Police Force. Our university students are still in captivity, and no one knows their whereabouts. These are clear indications that the minister is incompetent to handle that sensitive ministry. Therefore, he should wake up to his responsibilities or resign.”
