Bauchi Allocates N93 Billion to Education and Healthcare in 2024 Budget

The Bauchi State government has outlined a budget of N93 billion for education and healthcare services in the fiscal year 2024.

The disclosure came during the breakdown of the 2024 budget by Aminu Hammayo, the Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, on Friday in Bauchi.

Governor Bala Mohammed presented the ‘Budget of Consolidation and Renewed Focus,’ totaling N300.2 billion, to the state House of Assembly for approval.

Commissioner Hammayo emphasized that the budget, with a capital expenditure of N178.8 billion (representing 59.6%) and recurrent expenditure of N121.3 billion (40.4%), would be fully implemented.

A significant allocation of N48 billion, representing 16.1% of the budget, has been earmarked for the education ministry, marking an unprecedented commitment to education in Bauchi.

Additionally, healthcare services will receive N45.09 billion, aligning with the Abuja declaration, which recommends a minimum of 15% budgetary allocation to the sector.

Infrastructure development remains a key focus, with N42.3 billion allocated to the works ministry, demonstrating the administration’s commitment to driving progress in the state.

The breakdown also revealed that approximately 52% of the total budget is directed towards education, health, and infrastructure, indicating the administration’s priorities in these critical sectors.

Other notable allocations in the budget include N32.4 billion for the Ministry of Finance, N13.7 billion (4.6% of the budget) for the Office of the Head of Service, mainly designated for outstanding gratuities and pension payments.

Additionally, N5 billion has been allocated to the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, while the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning receives N5.6 billion, including provisions for reserves.

The Ministry of Agriculture is allocated N7.5 billion, and the Ministry of Youths and Sports is earmarked N3.9 billion.
