The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has reported a significant victory against Boko Haram insurgents, announcing the elimination of a key terrorist leader, Abu Asad, and several others in air strikes on their hideout at Tagoshe in the Mandara Mountains, Borno.

Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet, the Director of Public Relations and Information of NAF, stated that the air strikes, conducted on Friday, marked one of the most successful operations by the air component of Operation Hadin Kai in recent times.

The decision to strike followed the detection of a gathering of terrorists in an isolated location, consisting of three zinc structures amid several trees. Gabkwet noted that the footage revealed over 100 heavily armed terrorists engaging in banter and moving around randomly, with indications of a well-planned meeting or preparation for a major attack on troops.

The aftermath of the air strike showed the destruction of two out of the three structures and the entire troop carriers present at the location.

Among the eliminated terrorists, Abu Asad, a key figure in the Ali Ngulde group under Boko Haram, was identified. Other notable casualties included Ibrahim Nakeeb, Mujaheed Dimtu, Mustafa Munzir, and several fighters.

Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, the Chief of the Air Staff, commended the Air Component Commander and his team for their successful operation.

Abubakar urged continued collaboration with the Land Component while maintaining the momentum to keep terrorists on their toes.

He emphasized the need to make life unbearable for terrorists until they surrender or are completely eliminated, reinforcing the trust and confidence the Federal Government and the people of Nigeria place in the armed forces.
