The Federal Government of Nigeria has called upon oil and gas experts to provide lasting solutions to challenges facing the local oil industry.

These challenges include low productivity, oil theft, pipeline vandalism, and gas flaring. The call was made by Sen. Heineken Lokpobiri, Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), during the third Biennial International Conference on Hydrocarbon Science and Technology (ICHST 2023) in Abuja.

Nigeria, a significant player in the global oil and gas industry, is keen on sustaining its position by addressing these challenges and staying up-to-date with global trends in the sector.

The conference aimed to address issues facing the Nigerian oil and gas industry, and experts were encouraged to develop homegrown solutions to these problems.

Collaboration and innovative research are seen as vital for tackling the challenges, and the conference is expected to produce implementable solutions.

The Nigerian oil and gas sector faces numerous challenges, including technological hurdles and dwindling investments and finances.

The conference is a platform for discussing opportunities, challenges, and development in the oil and gas industry.

The African Petroleum Producers’ Organisation (APPO) has also identified technology, expertise, and markets as critical areas for addressing challenges in the sector.

The future of the oil and gas industry in Africa will require a concerted effort to overcome these challenges, especially as the industry faces an energy transition with significant impacts on developing countries.
