As the Supreme Court prepares to hear the appeals of Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, who are seeking to challenge President Bola Tinubu’s election victory, the area surrounding the court has been heavily secured.

Armed police officers and State Security Service (SSS) operatives have been positioned along the roads leading to the Supreme Court.

Traffic was diverted from the Court of Appeal end of Shehu Shagari Way up to the Head of Service intersection, where an armoured personnel carrier was stationed.

At the entrance of the Supreme Court, masked SSS operatives and mobile police officers screened accredited lawyers, litigants, and journalists.

Inside the courtroom, prominent figures like the acting chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Umar Damagum, and the party’s national publicity secretary, Debo Ologunagba, were in attendance for the day’s proceedings.

The legal teams representing the appellants and respondents have also made their presence known. President Tinubu’s legal team is led by Wole Olanipekun, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), while Atiku is being represented by Chris Uche, also a SAN.

Chukwuma Machukwu-Ume (SAN) leads the legal team for the All Progressives Movement (APM), and the All Progressives Congress (APC) will be represented by a former Attorney-General of the Federation, Akin Olujinmi, and Charles Uwensuyi-Edosomwan.

This heightened security presence is a testament to the significance of the upcoming court proceedings. The appeals of the aggrieved political parties have drawn much attention and anticipation.
