The youths of Nigeria are fighting a fight the world is perhaps not paying attention to. The fight between the Nigerian youths and the government of President Muhammadu Buhari is costing Nigeria socio-economic development.

His dislike for the youths’ energy became direct when he was left with no option than to ban digital currency. Cryptocurrency was banned because of the youths and it’s a major setback especially for the country’s digital economy.

I feel it’s more than appalling, knowing that the only reason for Twitter ban is that the government failed to comply with its policy. However, Twitter was banned because of the youths. The social media app has rapidly grown to be the virtual opinion space of the youths globally. Because the Nigerian government cannot cope with being humiliated for its misgovernance, it opted to blackmail the app, justifying the ban of the social media in Nigeria by describing it to have tolerated secessionists too long.

Buhari invested in unemployment to humble the youths: no job nor platform to support innovative youths, this has made many of the youths to become shadows of what they ought to be. We now have graduates who do menial jobs, some don’t even have any. This is a way to simply retard the growth of the youths in the country.

Presiddent Muhammadu Buhari pays no attention to the education sector. He underfunds education to leave the youths in shackles. For many months now, students of government owned polytechnics have been on strike and it means nothing to the government inspite of the continuous protest of the concerned students.

He killed sport and recreational activities as a means to tame the youths. If this means nothing to you, visit stadia across the country and public recreational centres.

Buhari carried out a genocide Oct 20th that killed the highest number of youths since 1999. The endsars protest is one that the Buhari led administration has swept under the carpet completely. A government willfully killed its own youth just to stay in power unchecked.

He beatified terrorism to keep the youths under illusion. Terrorists are now given different names as a cover up from global attention. The failed government even claim to deradicalise killer terrorists just to make sure the insecurity situation doesn’t get the right global attention and to avail youths for being used. In my own opinion, the bromance this government is having with terrorists is a clear indication that terrorism is beatified instead of being addressed for complete eradication.

Through the Miniter of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf, Nigerians have been officially informed that this administration currently has plans not to make the youths leave Nigeria for a greener pasture. May be the delay in passport issuance is one of the ways to keep people, especially the youths in a country the government has programmed ineffcacious.

We need to understand that in gerontocracy, nothing works for the youths. Nigerian youths have committed no crime other than just being youth.
