HistoryVille : The Face Of A Liar

0

In 1999, the Sixth Speaker of Nigeria’s House of Representatives, Alhaji Ibrahim Salisu Buhari was convicted for forgery and perjury by an Abuja magistrate court after confessing to lying under oath.

He had lied about his age (he was 29 but claimed 36) and presented fake certificates, allegedly obtained from the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria and University of Toronto, Canada, and a fake NYSC discharge Certificate to INEC, the country’s electoral body.

In June 2000, Buhari was granted a pardon by President Olusegun Obasanjo and in April 2013, President Goodluck Jonathan appointed him as a member of the Governing Council of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka.
