Vice-President Kashim Shettima, who attended Nigeria’s victory over South Africa in the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) semi-finals, is set to return to Ivory Coast for the tournament’s finals. Shettima was among the dignitaries present at the Stade de la Paix in Bouake when the Super Eagles defeated Bafana Bafana 4-2 on penalties.

Nigeria will face the host nation, Ivory Coast, in the finals at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium in Abidjan on Sunday.

In a media briefing on Friday, President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Patrice Motsepe, announced that President Bola Tinubu would be attending the finals in Ivory Coast. Motsepe also suggested that Nigeria should consider bidding to host the FIFA World Cup again.

However, a statement released on Saturday by the Vice-President’s spokesperson, Stanley Nkwocha, clarified that Tinubu had instructed Shettima to lead a presidential delegation to Ivory Coast for the finals.

President Tinubu expressed his support for the Nigerian national team, recognizing the importance of football in fostering national pride and unity. Shettima’s presence at the finals, alongside the delegation, reflects the government’s commitment to supporting the team and their success.
