Southeast Sit-at-Home Sign of Laziness and Goes Against Igbo Tradition of Hard Work Says Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu

Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, has criticized the Monday sit-at-home observed in the Southeast, describing it as a sign of laziness contrary to the hardworking nature traditionally associated with the Igbos.

Kalu made these remarks during the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Nigerian Communications Satellite (NIGCOMSAT) and Peace in South East Initiative (PISE-P) at the National Assembly complex.

The PISE-P initiative, led by the Deputy Speaker, aims to promote peace in the Southeast region.

In his statement, Kalu emphasized that the Igbos are known for their industriousness and are not inclined towards idleness or seeking additional holidays.

He stated that Southeasterners are renowned for their ability to generate wealth wherever they go and are not proponents of poverty.

Kalu expressed concern that setting aside an additional day for a sit-at-home protest goes against the hardworking ethos of the Southeast.

He highlighted the historical spirit of hard work, building, and progress passed down by forefathers and ancestors.

Kalu used the platform to emphasize that initiatives like PISE-P serve as a reminder of the values of hard work and construction over destruction. He urged the Southeast to embrace the spirit of building, creation, and fostering peace within the region.
