Omoyele Sowore, a prominent activist and former presidential candidate, has accused the Labour Party of lacking a distinctive ideological stance, claiming it is similar to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), despite claiming to be their opposition.

In a video shared on his X account, Sowore explained his reasons for rejecting an offer to join the Labour Party, citing its perceived similarities with the APC and PDP. He highlighted the party’s visibility on social media, where it often engaged in arguments and attacks against other political figures.

Sowore expressed his belief that the Labour Party does not represent the interests of workers, despite its name, likening it to a temporary accommodation where occupants are eventually forced out. He criticized the party’s track record, citing the tenure of a former governor of Ondo State, Segun Mimiko, as an example of the party’s shortcomings.

Regarding the 2023 election, Sowore claimed that the Labour Party was quick to call for revolution after feeling cheated by the political system. He alleged that the party’s members were mobilizing for revolution, implying that they were discontent with the current political landscape.

Sowore also compared the actions of prominent politicians such as Bola Tinubu and Atiku Abubakar with what he believes the Labour Party would have done in similar positions of power. He criticized their potential policies, suggesting they would have implemented measures like removing fuel subsidies and selling national assets.

Despite being a former presidential candidate for the African Action Congress (AAC), Sowore emphasized his reluctance to work with the Labour Party due to what he perceives as a lack of ideological alignment and conflicting principles.
