The Secretary of the Edo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Hilary Otsu, has refuted claims of the endorsement of a gubernatorial aspirant for the September 21 election in the state by some party leaders in the Edo North Senatorial District.

According to reports, certain leaders of the party in the Edo North Senatorial District had purportedly thrown their weight behind Asue Ighodalo as their preferred candidate for the upcoming election. However, Otsu has dismissed these endorsements as a farce, stating that no official party representative was present at the alleged event.

In his words, “Well, I saw the video and the news, but I was not there, I was not part of it, and I was not even in the picture. Edo North leaders didn’t ‘endorse’ any aspirant. I didn’t see any party officials in that video. I think it was just a charade and of no effect.”

He clarified that the aspirant had met with the party’s senatorial executive committee and local government chairmen at the secretariat, which is a customary practice. Other aspirants have also visited the senatorial leadership to express their aspirations.

Otsu emphasized that the Edo North leaders would issue a statement at the appropriate time to communicate their stance on the matter.
