PDP Slams Benue Governor Over APC Suspension, Warns of Political Turmoil

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Benue State has expressed concern over what it perceives as a decline into anarchy under the leadership of Governor Hyacinth Alia. In a statement issued by the party’s spokesperson, Bemgba Iortyom, the PDP condemned the indefinite suspension of Terdoo Kenti, the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwande Local Government Area (LGA), along with other members of his Executive Committee.

According to Iortyom, the suspension of Kenti and his committee members is seen as an affront to democratic principles and a reflection of Governor Alia’s leadership shortcomings. The PDP spokesperson criticized the suspension, stating that it lacks legitimacy and is inconsequential, especially considering the dismissal of the action by the state chapter of the APC.

Iortyom went further to characterize the suspension as part of a broader pattern of dictatorial behavior by Governor Alia, aimed at undermining the constitutional order in the state. He emphasized the PDP’s dismay at what it sees as a growing trend of lawlessness under the governor’s administration.

In a particularly pointed remark, Iortyom drew a parallel between the suspension order in Kwande and what he perceives as the governor’s autocratic style in Makurdi, the state capital. He lamented that such actions only serve to reinforce the perception that individuals with an authoritarian disposition, like Governor Alia and the suspending official, Revd. Fr. Hule, are ill-suited for leadership roles in a liberal democratic society.
