Governor Eno: ‘Former Governor Udom Emmanuel Never Pressured Me,’ Says He’s Grateful for Support

Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State recently expressed his gratitude towards his predecessor, Udom Emmanuel, stating that Mr. Emmanuel has not exerted any undue influence on him since he assumed office about seven months ago. Speaking on Christmas Day in Mr. Emmanuel’s hometown of Awa Iman, Onna Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom, Governor Eno praised Mr. Emmanuel for his exemplary leadership and lifestyle, affirming that he continues to look up to him as a mentor.

Accompanied by his cabinet members, Governor Eno attended a Christmas Day church service at the United Evangelical Church (formerly known as Qua Iboe Church), where Mr. Emmanuel is a member. This marked Mr. Emmanuel’s first Christmas celebration since leaving office as governor. During the service, Mr. Emmanuel shared his tradition of returning to his village every year to celebrate Christmas, emphasizing his close ties to his village church.

Mr. Emmanuel reflected on his past as a general manager at Zenith Bank, recounting how he allocated a portion of his increased salary to support his village church. He also highlighted his commitment to maintaining peace in Akwa Ibom, expressing confidence in the enduring covenant of peace he has established with God.

In response, Governor Eno pledged to continue joining Mr. Emmanuel in celebrating Christmas in his hometown, describing the gesture as a demonstration of respect and admiration for his predecessor. He thanked Mr. Emmanuel for his mentorship and leadership, acknowledging his significant influence in shaping his own leadership style.

Mr. Emmanuel reciprocated the goodwill by visiting Governor Eno in his hometown of Ikot Ekpene Udo, Nsit Ubium Local Government Area, accompanied by his wife, Martha. This visit symbolized the mutual respect and collaboration between the two leaders, with Mr. Emmanuel affirming their ongoing partnership beyond his tenure as governor.

Reflecting on their relationship, Mr. Emmanuel stressed the importance of unity and patience in governance, highlighting the challenges of leadership in Akwa Ibom. He expressed his commitment to supporting Governor Eno and emphasized the need for political stability and exemplary leadership in Nigeria and Africa.

Governor Eno echoed Mr. Emmanuel’s sentiments, acknowledging his role as a father figure and expressing his willingness to seek Mr. Emmanuel’s counsel on governance matters. He praised Mr. Emmanuel for his inclusive leadership and expressed his desire to emulate his ability to handle diverse individuals with grace and diplomacy.
