Nasiru Yunusa, a businessman, has informed the Upper Area Court in Kubwa, FCT, that he would agree to divorce his wife, Aisha Hamisu, if she pays him N1 million. The couple, married under Islamic law in 2021, has a 13-month-old daughter.

Mrs. Hamisu approached the court seeking the dissolution of her marriage, citing lack of care and respect. She stated that Mr. Yunusa had moved her belongings from his house to her father’s residence on April 19, 2022.

In response, Mr. Yunusa expressed his willingness for Mrs. Hamisu to return home but proposed a divorce if she compensates him. He claimed to have spent N1 million on legal fees and supporting her, which he was prepared to prove.

However, Mrs. Hamisu disputed his claims, stating that she did not love Mr. Yunusa and could not continue living with him. She denied his assertion of spending N1 million on her, clarifying that she had been with her parents for the past two and a half years after he left her belongings at their doorstep. She also mentioned giving birth to their daughter via Cesarean section at Kubwa General Hospital without Mr. Yunusa covering any of the hospital bills. Mrs. Hamisu expressed her willingness to repay Mr. Yunusa the dowry of N50,000 only.

The Judge, Mohammed Wakili, adjourned the case until January 8 for further hearing.
