Political tensions in Rivers State could escalate and spread nationwide if not swiftly addressed, warns Bode George, a prominent member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Speaking on Arise Television, George emphasized the urgency of resolving the ongoing political crisis in Rivers State and called on PDP leadership to intervene.

Describing Rivers as a crucial state in terms of electoral significance, George expressed concern that the current crisis might have far-reaching consequences if left unattended. He appealed to all parties involved to prioritize the nation’s interest, especially in a challenging economic climate marked by widespread hunger and frustration.

In the midst of a political feud between Governor Sim Fubara and his predecessor, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Nyesom Wike, the Rivers State Assembly has become the focal point of the turmoil. The assembly is now divided along factional lines, with each group aligning itself with either Fubara or Wike. This division has led to a series of accusations, attempted impeachments, and defections.

George specifically called out the leadership of the PDP, urging them to take decisive action in resolving the crisis. He questioned the role of the party’s leader in managing the situation and stressed the need for party leaders to step in and address the growing discord.

As the political landscape in Rivers State remains tense, the fear is that the repercussions could extend beyond the state borders, necessitating immediate and effective intervention from party leaders.
