The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has expressed readiness to resume supplying electricity to Niger Republic once Nigeria lifts the existing ban on the neighbouring country.

Ganiyu Aliyu, the General Manager Transmission for the Kaduna Region, made this statement during a briefing in Kaduna, highlighting the enhanced capacity of TCN to handle such power supply without impacting the region’s electricity needs.

Aliyu emphasized the concept of redundancy in the power system, likening it to having two phones—one as the primary line and the other as a standby.

He assured that the TCN in Kaduna had increased its capacity significantly, ensuring the ability to transfer loads between transformers seamlessly.

The General Manager outlined the achievements of TCN in 2023, citing improved service delivery and the successful execution of various capital reinforcement projects across the transmission network.

Among these projects were the installation of a 100MVA 132/33kV transformer in Birnin Kebbi substation, the construction of a 150MVA 330/132/33kV substation at Kalgo, and emergency erosion control works on Tower 122 Kaduna-Zaria 132kV transmission line.

Despite external challenges such as vandalism and encroachments on transmission installations, TCN reported substantial achievements in 2023, aligning with the Federal Government’s commitment to revitalizing the power sector.

Aliyu expressed satisfaction with the region’s enhanced capacity and emphasized the continuous pursuit of new projects.
