Reno Omokri Accuses Peter Obi of Hypocrisy Over Demolition Critique

Former presidential spokesman, Reno Omokri, has accused former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, of displaying hypocrisy in his recent criticism of the demolition of illegal buildings in Lagos State.

Obi had condemned the demolition, urging the government to carry out enforcement with a human face, considering the prevailing hardship in the country.

However, Omokri challenged Obi’s stance, pointing out that the former governor failed to condemn the burning of Chinedu and Omama in his hometown of Onitsha a month ago.

Omokri questioned why Obi condemned the Lagos State Government’s demolition exercise but remained silent when the Anambra State Government demolished illegal properties earlier in the year.

In his critique, Omokri highlighted the contradiction in Obi’s claim of speaking for “the poor in our midst.”

He pointed out that it was the houses of the poor that were demolished in Anambra, and Obi did not speak out against it.

However, the homes being demolished in Lagos primarily belong to multimillionaires, with one property owner boasting of spending ₦300 million on his mansion.

Omokri questioned Obi’s selective outrage, asking why the former governor did not advocate for the poor when Anambra was demolishing properties.

He emphasised the inconsistency in Obi’s position, questioning whether Obi was suggesting that crime is acceptable in Anambra but not in Lagos.

The critique from Omokri adds to the ongoing debate surrounding the demolition exercise in Lagos and raises questions about the consistency of political figures in addressing issues across different regions of the country.
