In response to the recent removal of the petroleum subsidy by the Federal Government, the Osun State Government has taken a proactive step to alleviate the economic impact on its residents.

The government officially introduced 19 buses, named “Imole Bus,” as part of its strategy to mitigate the challenges arising from the subsidy removal.

Notably, over N25 million was invested to ensure these buses are in optimal condition for operation.

According to a statement released by Kolapo Alimi, the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment in the state, the Imole Buses are dedicated to transporting civil servants, students, and the most economically vulnerable residents at a nominal fare.

The generated revenue will be earmarked for the continuous operation and maintenance of the buses, ensuring their sustained functionality.

The statement clarified that the substantial amount spent on the buses was necessary due to their nearly grounded status and the prevailing road conditions.

Osogbo, the capital of Osun State, received five buses, while Ede, Iwo, and Ikirun were allocated two each.

Additionally, Ife/Modakeke and Ilesha had three buses each, with two held in reserve for unforeseen contingencies.

Osogbo serves as the pilot scheme for the Imole bus palliative shuttle services, with plans to extend the services to other towns and cities in the state in the near future.

The buses are scheduled to operate two shifts daily, covering officially designated routes in the morning and afternoon from Mondays through Fridays. Morning services are slated between 6:45 am and 9:00 am, while afternoon shuttles will run from 3 pm to 5 pm.

The Osun State Government affirmed its unwavering commitment to fulfilling campaign promises and expressed dedication to enhancing the welfare of the public.

The introduction of the Imole Buses signifies a practical approach to address the economic challenges posed by the removal of the petroleum subsidy, with a focus on providing affordable and accessible transportation for residents.
