President Bola Tinubu is set to attend the G20 Compact with Africa (CwA) Conference in Berlin, Germany, departing Abuja on Saturday.

The conference, hosted by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, will bring together Heads of State and Government from CwA member countries, bilateral partners, and Heads of International Organizations.

The discussions will focus on enhancing economic and business cooperation, with an emphasis on boosting investments in critical areas like energy, trade, infrastructure, and new technologies.

The G20 CwA Conference will run parallel to the Fourth G20 Investment Summit, co-hosted by the German government and German business associations.

President Tinubu, known for his advocacy for foreign direct investment in Nigeria, will lead the country’s delegation to participate in the investment summit.

This visit underscores the commitment to diplomatic reciprocity, following Chancellor Scholz’s visit to Abuja and Lagos in October 2023.

President Tinubu’s discussions with Chancellor Scholz in October highlighted the need for increased German investments in Nigeria, particularly in sectors like transportation, mining, and energy.

Nigeria and Germany, the largest economies in Africa and Europe, respectively, saw bilateral trade volume rise from two to three billion Euros between 2021 and 2022.

Accompanying President Tinubu on the trip are the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Amb. Yusuf Tuggar; Coordinating Minister of the Economy and Minister of Finance, Mr. Wale Edun; Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr. Doris Uzoka-Anite; and Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu.

The delegation aims to build on previous productive meetings with high-ranking representatives from German business organizations. President Tinubu is expected to return to Nigeria at the end of the conference.
