The High Court of the Federal Capital Territory has remanded 13 members of the Petroleum Tanker Drivers (PTD) branch of the National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) in Kuje prison.

This follows their arraignment on a five-count criminal charge for the alleged attempted murder of the national president of NUPENG, Williams Akporeha, and two others.

The defendants, including former national chairman of PTD, Lucky Osesua, are accused of laying siege to the PTD office and committing various offenses, including acting in a manner likely to cause the deaths of the victims.

The charges also include voluntarily causing grievous bodily harm. The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges, and their lead counsel, Chris Oshomogie, SAN, applied for bail, claiming that the offenses were bailable.

However, the court rejected the oral bail application, instructing the defense to file a formal application.

The court set the date for the trial to commence on November 21, and until then, the defendants were ordered to be remanded in Kuje prison.
