Nigerian Senate Urges Organized Labour to End Nationwide Strike Over Assault on NLC President

The Nigerian Senate has issued an appeal to organized labor to end the ongoing strike prompted by the assault on Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) President Joe Ajaero in Imo State.

The strike, initiated by the NLC and the Trade Union Congress (TUC), began on Tuesday in protest of the alleged attack on Ajaero on November 1.

Activities across various states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have been significantly disrupted as workers participate in the industrial action.

Senator Abdul Ningi presented a motion condemning the assault, emphasizing Ajaero’s constitutional right to engage in electioneering in Imo State.

The Senate has mandated its leadership to summon an emergency meeting with labor leaders to address the issue.

Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, the Senate Leader, presented Ningi’s motion, expressing concern that if the strike persists, it could lead to severe economic consequences for Nigeria.
