INEC Cracks the Whip: Parties Warned About Fake News Ahead of Key Elections

With the upcoming governorship elections in Bayelsa, Kogi, and Imo, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is laying down the law when it comes to fake news. No more spreading misinformation for political gain, says INEC.

The Chief Press Secretary to the INEC chairman, Rotimi Oyekanmi, was not mincing words when he warned political parties against engaging in fake news campaigns in the lead-up to the November 11th elections.

This stern stance from INEC came after the Social Democratic Party (SDP) claimed that the electoral commission was configuring Bimodal Voter Accreditation System machines at the Government House in Lokoja to manipulate the Kogi state governorship election.
