A grieving woman has cried out in pain to the Governor of Kwara State, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, in a video circulating on X pleading for urgent government intervention in the worsening insecurity ravaging her community.
The woman, whose voice was filled with anguish, said her husband was among several victims recently killed by suspected bandits in Oke Ode. She lamented that families in the area now live in constant fear, as many residents have either been displaced or are mourning loved ones lost to violent attacks.
In her plea, she begged the state government to deploy security measures that would restore peace and protect lives.
The call highlights the growing concerns of rural dwellers across Kwara State who have continued to demand stronger action from authorities against banditry and violent crimes.
In her words speaking in Yoruba Language
“Kwara! They have killed my husband. I can’t even find anyone to record this for me. I am doing it myself. The government of Kwara, they have killed my husband. The DSS gave guns to the bandits and collected them from the Yoruba vigilantes. They have killed my husband.
My husband was on his way home. When he got to Ikere Aje, they vandalised his car. They killed him, his brother, and the husband of his sister. These two are lying on the ground now. They killed 14 people in total. Ten vigilantes are dead.
They also kidnapped a husband and wife. She said they are in Oke Ode. She also said they are at the police station in Oke Ode, but the police there are powerless.”
Responding to the incident in a press statement issued by the Kwara State Police Command through its Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, said that operatives of the command, alongside personnel of the National Forest Security Service, swiftly responded to distress calls. However, by the time security agents arrived, 12 vigilante members had already been found dead.
This has caused a lot of reaction on social media, and the Police spokesperson has assured adequate security for the people of the community.
