NYSC withheld Reye’s discharge certificate, cite failure in April biometic clearance absence

Raye, who served in Lagos State, was popular for a widely shared video she posted some months ago, lamenting about the cost of living, economic hardship in the country, and the state of sanitation in Lagos.

In a statement released on the NYSC X handle, it was emphasised that Rita’s service year has been extended by two months for failing to attend the April 2025 biometrics clearance.

It reads, “Rita is among the 131 Corps Members whose Certificates of National Service (CNS) were withheld for valid disciplinary reasons. 

Specifically, Rita’s service year has been extended by two months for failing to attend the April 2025 biometrics clearance, a decision that aligns with the NYSC Bye-Laws.”

Defending the scheme, it was made known that it is a standard procedure and not unique to her case, and the principle of equal treatment was only applied in this case.

On Saturday, she took to Instagram to allege that she was denied her certificate when she went to collect it alongside her colleagues.

She said NYSC officials claimed she failed to complete her April clearance, a claim she strongly disputed.

According to her, she had presented herself for clearance but was repeatedly told by her Local Government Inspector to wait.

She further alleged that the LGI later refused to clear her, seized her file, and asked her to leave the office.
