MISINFORMATION ALERT: WAEC debunks the Cancellation of Results of Listed Schools Circulating Online

Background
On August 4, 2025, a viral letter with the title “Urgent notice to the following secondary schools regarding withheld results,” signed by Dr Florence Ajayi, Director of Examination Malpractice and Irregularities, WAEC Nigeria.
It was written that the results of the students of the listed schools were withheld over their alleged involvement in examination malpractice, calling on the principals of the mentioned schools to report to the WAEC Lagos Zonal Office within 10 working days.
Other information on the letter quoted “The letter further read, “All school principals are to appear before the WAEC Investigative Panel on or before August 16th, 2025, with supporting documentation and the affected candidates’ exam scripts (where applicable).”
According to the list, affected schools included Babington Macaulay Junior Seminary, Ikorodu; Atlantic Hall, Epe; Top Faith International School, Uyo; Corona Secondary School, Agbara; Christ the King College, Onitsha; St. Louis Secondary School, Ondo; Charles Dale Memorial International School, Port Harcourt; Stella Maris College, Abuja; Divine Mercy Secondary School, Asaba; Federal Government Girls’ College, Calabar; Holy Rosary College, Enugu; St. Theresa’s Catholic College, Oke-Ado, Ibadan”.
However, this information was seen to have been circulating the same day West Africa Examination Council (WAEC) posted on its X handle announcing the release of the 2025 WASSCE for school candidates.
Hence, with the way at which false information has been in the increase, GovernmendCheck was moved to ascertain the veracity of the information.
Verification
Our research found out that there has been a release on the official X handle of WAEC NIGERIA, clearly debunking the viral post circulating. The post read, “Kindly ignore any message listing schools whose results were supposedly cancelled. Meanwhile, WAEC will never ask any centre to bring scripts of candidates to the office. Where would they get them from? Do not accept any message that is not on our handles and accredited media”.

Conclusion
From the investigation carried out by our researcher, the information circulating that WAEC has cancelled the results of students of the above-mentioned schools is FALSE. Therefore, urge the public to always check out credible platforms such as newspapers, websites of the organisation or official social platforms.
