Vice President Kashim Shettima has called on religious leaders to advocate for tolerance and understanding among Nigerians. He made this appeal during the 38th National Maulud celebration of Sheikh Ibrahim Niass at the Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja.

Mr. Shettima emphasized the importance of religious leaders and their followers engaging in efforts to comprehend one another. He urged them to bridge the gaps between knowledge and ignorance, and between reality and mischief, to honor the legacy of Prophet Muhammad sincerely.

Tolerance and collaboration, according to the vice president, are crucial in transforming Nigeria into a welcoming home and a nation of opportunities for all. He stressed that this mindset is essential for fulfilling their commitment to building an inclusive and progressive society, as chaos, poverty, or insecurity affects everyone, regardless of their religious or ethnic background.

Mr. Shettima also urged leaders to renew their commitment to serving humanity, emphasizing that political leaders should never take the citizens for granted. He highlighted the sacred space where the responsibilities of service converge for faith and political leaders, stressing the need for leaders to be driven by a profound sense of duty in promoting the welfare of the people they serve.

The event was attended by prominent figures such as Sheikh Muhammad Sanusi II, Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi, Sheikh Ibrahim Saleh-Alhusaini, and the minister of budget and economic planning, Atiku Bagudu.
