House of Representatives Backs Government on Emergency Food Aid Amid Rising Prices

The Speaker of the House of Representatives has announced the House’s support for the government’s efforts to provide emergency food aid in response to the current surge in food prices. During a press briefing at the National Assembly Complex on Thursday, Speaker Abbas, accompanied by several lawmakers, expressed solidarity with Nigerians facing hardship due to rising food costs.

“We are aware of the pains and hardship being experienced by every family. Your concerns have not gone unnoticed,” Abbas stated, emphasizing the significance of food security to him personally.

The Speaker’s remarks come amidst ongoing protests in some Northern states and the Nigerian Labour Congress’s (NLC) threat of a strike over economic challenges.

Abbas also defended the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, against recent cyberbullying and fake news campaigns. He urged relevant security agencies to investigate and apprehend those responsible for the attacks against Gbajabiamila.

Gbajabiamila had previously reported a cyber campaign against him to the Department of State Security (DSS).

Addressing the issue of insecurity, Abbas announced that the House would soon host a security summit to address the escalating security challenges in the country.
