The Oyo State chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has called on President Bola Tinubu to implement stricter measures against corruption across all sectors. Apostle Joshua Akinyemiju, the Chairman of CAN in Oyo State, emphasized the need for the government to diversify the economy by focusing on agriculture, ensuring a stable market system, improving electricity supply, and demonstrating political will to curb wastage.
Akinyemiju stressed the importance of enforcing laws to punish offenders, regardless of their position or status, stating that no one should be exempt from accountability. He criticized the tendency of some leaders to travel to countries like Dubai, Singapore, and China without adopting and implementing successful strategies from those nations in Nigeria. He urged leaders to prioritize selflessness, sensitivity, and sincerity in their governance, emphasizing the importance of a leadership that fears God and acknowledges accountability before the creator.
Quoting 2 Chronicles 7:14, Akinyemiju highlighted the need for humility, prayer, repentance, and a turning away from wickedness among leaders and citizens to bring about peace and prosperity in the country.
In a related development, Pastor Francis Oghuma of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Jesus Place, Ibadan, encouraged citizens to endure the current economic hardships as temporary sacrifices necessary for economic recovery. He emphasized the need for selflessness and prudent spending, discouraging extravagant events like weddings and burials, which he described as detrimental to the economy.
Pastor Oghuma called on the government to create a conducive environment for citizens and address the persistent issue of electricity supply. He advocated for the adoption of solar energy to revive the manufacturing sector and prevent further economic decline caused by inadequate power supply.
