Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, the former President of Nigeria, has told politicians to know that leadership is not by force, adding that they should shun politics of desperation and killing.

Jonathan, who made this known ahead the Saturday’s gubernatorial elections,  said this at Sampou community in the Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area of Bayelsa State shortly after paying a condolence visit to Governor Douye Diri over the demise of his father, Pa Abraham Diri, on Wednesday.

As seen in ThePunch, politics should be about service and not about self, urging politicians to wait for God’s time to get into leadership positions.

Daniel Alabrah, Diri’s Chief Press Secretary, in a statement on Thursday, quoted the former president to have said that in a democracy the people play a critical role, wondering why those who aspire to lead want to force themselves on the people.

His words, “Leadership is not by force. It is about serving the people. So, if you want to lead the people, you cannot kill them before you lead them.
