Interview: Democracy Cannot Help Nigeria, It Hasn’t Helped Any Country – Idoko | GOVERNMEND

During an exclusive interview with Mr. Idoko who’s a seasoned political analyst, he discussed many issues confronting the country, Nigeria. The tele-interview was granted and he wasted no time pointing at areas is having it wrong.

My Idoko had this to say:

“As a country, we need to understand that it’s not every agitation we can listen to. Some agitations don’t make sense, have political undertone, driven by sentiments and can be described as irrational. If you asked bandits, BokoHaram members, they also are pushing their grievances out – it’s an agitation.

Secessionists should be arrested. I didn’t mean they should be illegally detained but of course the government cannot sit down and watch them tear the country apart. The quest is somewhat funny because what would you say to Dangote, with businesses spread across the length and breadth of the country? I know for someone like Cosharis CEO, secession movement is anti development, and it’s right to think so.

Even with the disintegration moves, countries are too connected now, if you notice in recent times. Technology has done an unbelievable job. No part of a country is asking to break away because technology has made all countries of the world a global village. If Oduduwa goes today, it would still not be different like many envisaged

Democracy cannot help Nigeria, it hasn’t helped any country. America that pretends to be home to modern democracy leaves her citizen in a deceitful democracy yet sends soldiers to other countries pretending to maintain democracy. Some actions need to be taken diplomatically but many require some really frank strategies.

I agree Nigerians Should meet to deliberate about the current situation of the country, there are needs for Nigerian leaders and prominent persons to redesign a workplan. I remember reading a book where Nigeria is described as a joke taken too far by Nnamdi Azikiwe, Obafemi Awolowo also said Nigeria is just a geographical expression. Thus, our founding fathers never saw the sustainability of the amalgamation feasible despite their nationality. However, we have been together for far too long to now say we are breaking out. Nigeria is ours.”
